Dilemma...

Black + White Cells 29"w x 39"h (c)Pat Dolan
Here is one in the series of monochromatic pieces that are presently "in the works." This one has me baffled as to how to complete it. It could be hung vertically or horizontally - both work. It could be trimmed in closer to the main stream of black and white cells. Or left as is. A black border could be added - I like to pillowcase most of my work, but this one may call for something different. Maybe it could be stretched on stretcher bars...

Comments and/or suggestions please!

The horizontal orientation is appealing to me, although I can't say why. Maybe a wide-ish black border to sort of 'frame' and set off the black in the center? It's a beautiful piece.

Our granddaughter, a student at Philly U. in fashion design, also thinks a black frame of some sort should be added - although she thinks I should cut the quilt in 3 pieces, putting a black strip between each of the two outer pieces (narrower than the inner piece) and the inner piece. I had been thinking about cutting it up in that precise way, but hadn't figured out what to do next... Still haven't so it's still on the design wall!

Ohhhh, I like that idea. Maybe piping instead of sashing between the panels to maintain the delicate look of the piece?

Now THAT is a great idea - especially since the piece is already quilted... I've not done piping before, but there's no better time to learn!
Thanks for the suggestion.
PS I like your blog/work, too!

Hi Pat:

I like the horizontal view and I think a delicate black line someplace would frame this nicely.
